Mel Zimmerman Clinical Psychologist
Mel is a Clinical Psychologist passionate about helping others to achieve their life goals. Prior to moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2017, she worked as a Psychologist at the University of Southern Queensland. She has experience working with a diverse range of clients from 4 to 90 years of age. In addition to an interest in helping people affected by traumatic and adverse life events, Mel also provides assistance with grief and loss, chronic disease and pain, life transitions, depression, anxiety, addiction, workplace injury / stress, adjustment disorders, and relationship conflict.
In her current practice Mel uses a number of treatment modalities including: Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Mel is also trained in the Gottman method of couples therapy which is effective for skill building to managing conflict and helping couples create shared meaning, ultimately fostering a trusting and committed relationship.
Before training as a psychologist Mel worked as a Detective in the Queensland Police. Her previous career provided a profound understanding of human behaviour and the consequences harmful behaviours have. This understanding has assisted many people involved in the court process, or affected by any legal proceedings.
Mel understands each person is an individual and will tailor therapy to meet your needs. Whether you would like to work through painful past events that hold you back from living the life you want right now, or are having trouble managing stress or a medical condition, Mel will work with you to achieve the results you are looking for.
